Women Rowing North: A Reading Group

  • Highland Park United Methodist Church 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Room #3 (second floor) Dallas, TX, 75205 United States (map)

There comes a time in life when. . . It is impossible to ignore the beckoning of aging…a loss of vision or hearing; joints that simply don’t want to cooperate any longer; precious grandchildren; a word or thought that slips away just as we meant to speak it! Sooner or later, we experience the loss of someone precious to us, someone irreplaceable…leaving us nose-to-nose with wracking reality.

What IS a "Reading Group"?

Folks will come every two weeks having read the assigned pages, prepared to participate in discussion. This is NOT a support group, not a grief group, not a therapy group.

It WILL BE an opportunity to try on new ideas about aging; a place to hear how others are managing similar territory; a group which supports members as we experiment with giving ourselves assignments at each session. The group size will be limited specifically to permit conversation. Sessions will be 1.5 hours on five dates. This is not a class (teacher presents info) but a discussion group (members come prepared to participate). The tone will be positive, uplifting and encouraging: to borrow from Pipher’s title, flourishing. If that sounds like what you’ve been interested in, please join us…….
